The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its online premiere on the Hulu service. On the surface, it may seem like conventional physical horror, but within Together lies a profound examination about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. Married in reality in 2017, the two stars bring a particular energy to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The plot starts when Tim and Millie transition from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s largely where the cliches conclude. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim tumble into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the couple. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a methodically building horror experience, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, gross (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director weaves these elements together seamlessly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He dreads the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he avoids making one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

The couple grapple with the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions over a long period. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama work together in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have interpreted the film as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Conversely, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform now.
